Jazziz Magazine features Leni Stern’s global adventures in their Spring issue. In a ‘Prelude’ interview entitled ‘Postcards From the Edge’, Stern’s journeys to Madagascar, India and elsewhere are chronicled by writer Melissa Blazek: “Stern’s evolution from jazz guitarist to world-music gypsy began in 2007 when she volunteered to bring a band to a UNESCO-sponsored workshop for recording engineers in Mali.”

In 2010 alone, 24-year-old New Orleans singer / songwriter / multi-instrumentalist and all-around musical powerhouse Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews has signed with Verve Forecast Records and performed on Good Morning America and ESPN’s SportsCenter in the run-up to the Super Bowl. He has seen recordings he contributed to earn a Grammy® award (Buckwheat Zydeco’s “Lay Your Burden Down”) and an Oscar® nomination (Dr. John’s “Down In New Orleans” from the hit Disney film ‘The Princess and the Frog’). Remembering Herb Ellis: A Few Thoughts on the Passing of This Jazz Guitarist Great by Andrew Vaughan

Last week, it was reported on Gibson.com that jazz legend Herb Ellis, a much respected and loved member of the Gibson family, had passed away at the age of 88.

Ellis was one of the best of a generation of modern-day players inspired by Charlie Christian, probably the most influential electric guitar player in jazz history and considered by many critics to have been the founding father of electric jazz guitar. Herb Ellis played with the same wonderfully easy and fluid lead style as Christian, but also delivered a strong driving rhythm style that became a trademark of his performances and recordings.

The Main Street Gospel is a Columbus, Ohio trio who mix psych-infused classic rock with dusty country vibes and dirt-stained blues. The band was born in 2005, when Barry Dean-former tambourine shaker for the Brian Jonestown Massacre-began writing songs with longtime friend Ryan ‘Tito’ Ida. Adam Scoppa joined the band on drums the following year.
