Blind Pig Releases New CDs, 45 RPM

Blind Pig Records, the renowned American roots music label, has released  CDs from retro-soul singing sensation John Németh, world music and jam band favorite Harper, and traditional blues luminaries Magic Slim and the Teardrops. In addition, the label released a 45 RPM vinyl single from Németh.

JOHN NÉMETH    “NAME THE DAY!” Németh possesses the ability to skillfully blend retro and modern blues and soul into compelling music that is simultaneously old and new.  Name The Day! draws on the classic blues, soul, and R&B influences that inform his stunning vocal style with tunes that wouldn’t sound a bit out of place in the golden years of Memphis or Muscle Shoals.  His spine-tingling vocals, with echoes of the toughness of James Brown and the tenderness of Solomon Burke, infuse the album with a funky, soulful feeling.

John’s 45RPM single (“Name The Day” b/w “Why Not Me”) will appeal to fans of artists such as Sharon Jones and James Hunter.  The release of this single augments Blind Pig’s “Vinyl Masters” series  of twelve HQ-180 gram limited edition audiophile LPs.

HARPER    “STAND TOGETHER” harmonica wizard and part rhythmic explorer, Harper is a fiery artist who blurs the lines between rock, blues, soul, and world music.  Stand Together spotlights his considerable skills as a singer, harmonica player, and his proficiency as a didgeridoo player. With his deeply soulful grooves, unparalleled songwriting, and compelling lyrics, Harper is at the top of his game on this release.

MAGIC SLIM & THE TEARDROPS    “RAISING THE BAR” Slim is the greatest living proponent of the intense, electrified, Mississippi-to-Chicago blues style that spawned much of the music played by modern blues artists and rock ‘n’ rockers.   Raising The Bar is an outstanding collection of R&B gems and perennial crowd favorites culled from Slim’s vast repertoire.  Magic Slim once again proves that when it comes to complete mastery of the blues, he has few if any equals on the scene today.
