Benefit Concert Features National Recording Artist Tinsley Ellis, Friday June 11

Thursday is the last day to purchase tickets at the advance price for Tinsley Ellis. If you have not been to the Castaways Speakeasy Theater, it is the best kept secret in town. It is set up just like a small Las Vegas style showroom. Ray Charles has played the room and the piano that resides there was purchased especially for him. Various other artists have played and you can see all their pictures lining the hallway.

Tinsley Ellis is known as one of the hottest Blues artists on the music scene today. He will be bringing his brand of Blues/Rock to the Castaways Speakeasy Theater, 107 Manitou Avenue, Manitou Springs, on Friday, June 11, 2010. Showtime is 8pm.

The concert is a fundraising effort on behalf of Colorado Springs Nursing Students for Haiti, a group of nursing students in Colorado Springs who are visiting earthquake devastated Haiti to assist with medical efforts. Complete information regarding Colorado Springs Nursing Students for Haiti and their efforts may be found at their website. People wishing to make a donation without attending the concert may do so through the website.

Tinsley Ellis sings and plays with the energy and soul of all the great Southern musicians who have come before him. He attacks his music with rock power and blues feeling, in the same tradition as Deep South musical heroes Duane Allman, Freddie King and Warren Haynes. Atlanta Magazine declared Ellis “the most significant blues artist to emerge from Atlanta since Blind Willie McTell.           ”Since first hitting the national scene with his Alligator Records debut Georgia Blue in 1988, Ellis has toured non-stop and continued to release one critically acclaimed album after another. Tinsley’s hometown paper, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, calls his music, “a potent, amazing trip through electric blues-rock.” Rolling Stone said, “feral blues guitar…non-stop gigging has sharpened his six-string to a razor’s edge…his eloquence dazzles…he achieves pyrotechnics that rival Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton.” Ellis is touring in support of his newest release, Speak No Evil, which has been nominated for 2010 Rock Blues Album of the Year in the 31st annual Blues Music Awards which are held on May 6, 2010 in Memphis Tennessee.

“Concerts have always been a great vehicle for raising money for a worthy cause” explains Amy Whitesell of A Music Company Inc., promoter of the show. “When we were approached with the idea of helping nursing students raise money to finance their humanitarian efforts to aid victims of Haiti’s earthquake by holding a concert, it was something we did not to think twice about. A Music Company Inc. has always made a point of partnering with non-profits for the benefit of the community. But this is something totally different. Here we have a group of dedicated nursing students who are taking on this effort on their own. Proceeds from this benefit concert will offset some of the student costs associated with travel. The community has an opportunity to show support for a worthy cause while enjoying top notch entertainment in the process. It’s a win/win situation.”

Tickets for the concert are $20 in advance and $25 the day of the show. A special $50 VIP ticket includes, a “Meet and Greet” with Tinsley Ellis prior to the concert, appetizers and choice seating. Tickets may be purchased on line at and at the Castaways. The event will also feature a silent auction.
