Carlisle Blues Festival – 12th to 14th November

Nominated at the 2010 British Blues Awards for the BEST BLUES FESTIVAL

The Carlisle Blues Festival’s reputation as one of the best of its kind in the UK is growing rapidly. In recognition of its popularity it has reached the final 6 nominations in the 2010 British Blues Awards.

This year’s Carlisle Blues Festival -the fourth- is destined to be the best yet. Since it began 2007, the success of the event has exceeded all expectations and as its fourth year approaches it has become established as one of the most prestigious festivals of its kind in the UK. At a time when live music, in particular Blues, is enjoying a resurgence world -wide, the festival is now is attracting major artists from around the world; in particular, from the very home of Blues music, the USA.

The Carlisle event has built this reputation primarily on the strength of its line-up, with the latest promising to better any other in the UK in 2010. As well as this year featuring some major Blues talents from the USA, including headliner Michael Burks (a Grammy Award nominee), the festival will play host to a crop of some the UK’s finest including, James Hunter, Nicky Moore, Marcus Bonfanti and the jewel in the UK blues crown, Ian Siegal.

In addition to the mighty Michael Burks, arguably the best blues/rock artist in the States who will be making his very first visit to the UK, other US stars also crossing the Atlantic for this year’s festival at the Hilltop Hotel from Friday 12th to Sunday 14th include Hamilton Loomis, Mud Morganfield and Ben Prestage.

All the US acts are appearing in association with the Movinmusic agency, and festival organiser Nick Westgarth speaks highly about their collaboration: “I’ve worked with Movinmusic for some years now so I know how good they are. The work they have done this year to get the US guys, Michael Burks in particular, and James Hunter over for November has been invaluable, in fact absolutely crucial. I believe I’ve pulled a great line up together at Carlisle this year but I couldn’t have done it with Movinmusic.”

The genre’s leading British Blues lights also appearing, include Chantel McGregor, Never The Bride, Kevin Thorpe’s ‘Tipping Point’, Hokie Joint, rockabilly sensations The Revolutionaires and Lucy Zirins. All in all, this promises to be a highly impressive collection of artists that will come together for a sensational weekend of top quality Blues entertainment at the ‘friendly festival’.

Taking place each year over one weekend in November, the Carlisle Blues Festival regularly attracts blues enthusiasts from as far afield as Devon in the South and Inverness the North of the UK – overseas visitors from Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg and Ireland have also already secured their tickets for this year’s event. It may not the biggest in the UK, but it is certainly earning one of the biggest reputations. In fact, many regular festival attendees who have already experienced Carlisle say it has become the best of its kind in the UK.

Organiser Nick Westgarth is expecting the 2010 Carlisle Blues Festival to sell out in advance (especially considering that ticket pricing remains the same as last year’s successful event). Ticket sales are in fact already well ahead of last year and Nick says that the inclusive tickets with hotel accommodation sold much quicker than in previous years. “Full Weekend tickets are proving particularly popular,” he says, “although single day tickets are also up on last year, with Sunday going well too”.
