Bass Player Live! Hosted Another Successful Exhibition, Clinic and All-Star Concert Last Weekend with the Top Bass Players in the World Under One Roof October 23-24, 2010

Hollywood, CA– Music Player Network hosted their annual Bass Player LIVE! event Oct 23-24 with an incredible two-day exhibit and live clinic at SIR Studios and an unforgettable two-hour concert at Key Club on Sat. Oct 23rd. During the concert, Victor Wooten presented the 2010 “Lifetime Achievement Award” to Bootsy Collins, and both Darryl Jones and Sergio Mendes presented Alphonso Johnson with a 2010 “Lifetime Achievement Award.”

The Key Club concert featured Bootsy Collins holding the funk down throughout the entire evening, jamming with bass giants such as Verdine White (Earth, Wind & Fire), Nathan Watts (Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson), Victor Wooten (Bela Fleck), and freestyle rhymes by Beyonce’s bassy Divinity Roxx, to name a few. A large birthday cake resembling the November issue of Bass Player’s Bootsy Collins cover was also presented at the end of the show, honoring Bootsy’s birthday.

During the two-day exhibit at SIR Studios many of the featured bass legends hosted “closed-door clinics” to all participants sharing personal stories, bass tips, and triumphs throughout their careers, as well as open discussion for questions. Some highlights included: Darryl Jones telling stories behind his great bass work with Miles Davis, Sting, Madonna and the Rolling Stones, Matt Garrison presenting BP LIVE’s first-ever surround-sound clinic, in which audience members “flew” his bass around the room using an iPhone, Alex Al performing with his supercharged sextet comprised of members of the bands of Michael Jackson and “George Lopez Tonight,” and thrash pioneer David Ellefson breaking down the details of his iconic Megadeth bass lines. Journeyman bassists Mike Inez (Alice in Chains, Heart, Ozzy Osbourne) and Sean Hurley (John Mayer, Vertical Horizon) also revealed how they’ve built their enviable careers, Nathan Watts told the stories behind his great bass work with Stevie Wonder, and, Billy Sheehan explained his lead and rock bass mastery.
