Tribute to Wayman Tisdale with Special Guests George Duke and Derek Allen!
The students of the Stax Music Academy in Memphis, Tennessee, will pull out the funk at Rhodes College on Saturday, November 13, 2010, 7 – 8:30 p.m. with a very special Winter Concert, “Funk In The Soul.” Performed in conjunction with the recent release of the posthumous CD The Funk Record by former NBA star forward and musician/singer Wayman Tisdale, the performance will include guest stars from the CD, including jazz/funk legend George Duke and musician, songwriter and producer Derek Allen
Duke, who first rose to fame in the early 1970s playing on numerous albums with Frank Zappa, has cemented himself as one of the world’s greatest solo recording artists, musicians, producers, and live performers in the funk, R&B, and jazz scenes, collaborating with such artists as Jean Luc Ponty, Miles Davis, Stanley Clark, George Clinton, Anita Baker, Jeffrey Osborne, and dozens of others.
Likewise, the Stellar Award-winning and Grammy-nominated Derek Allen has shared the studio and stage with the a long list of artists that includes Smokie Norful, Tony Toni Tone, Bobby Brown, Chaka Khan, Angie Stone, Janet Jackson, Kanye West and a host of others.
