Jazz/funk/fusion legends THE HEADHUNTERS have announced a U.S. tour for November, with stops in NY, VT, MA, PA, ME, VA and NC. The seminal band is currently finalizing tracks for a compelling new CD, ‘Platinum’, which will be released early next year by Owl Studios, featuring guest appearances by Snoop Dogg, George Clinton, Killah Priest, Del the Funky Homosapien and others.

Legendary Headhunters percussionist Bill Summers unabashedly previews the album in his own words: “2011 will mark the beginning of a new movement in music and jazz. The true fusion of Hip Hop, Jazz, Rap, Salsa, Rock, New Orleans, African rhythm and its classical forms. The Headhunters are steeped in the funk and jazz traditions. Pianist, composer, and educator Jeremy Siskind – originally from Irvine, CA, now living in NYC – is “a remarkable pianist” and “a rising star on the jazz scene,” according to legendary pianist Marian McPartland. After many years of studying (Siskind has earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Eastman and his Master’s in English and Comparative Literature from Columbia; he studies piano with Sophia Rosoff and Fred Hersch), performing around the world (since his early teens, originally as part of Yamaha’s Junior Original Concert Program, now as a leader and in-demand sideman), winning numerous awards and scholarships, and performing/recording with the likes of Chris Potter and Marcus Printup, Jeremy Siskind is primed for the release of his debut CD as a leader, Simple Songs (for When the World Seems Strange), available on Brooklyn Jazz Underground Records on September 28, 2010. Mack Avenue Records is proud to announce the signing of Grammy® award winning jazz group, the Yellowjackets. The signing was made official at the 2010 Detroit International Jazz Festival, where the group headlined on the Carhartt Amphitheatre Stage.

Comprised of saxophonist Bob Mintzer, keyboardist Russell Ferrante, bassist Jimmy Haslip and drummer Will Kennedy (who was a member of the group from 1986-1998 and returned this year), the group joins the Mack Avenue family during its 30th anniversary of making music. (more…)
